INTRODUCTION

Rim seal fire protection system is designed to detect and extinguish fire in the Rim seal area of the Floating Roof Tank at the incipient stage. The system is fully automated in operation and uses the legendary technology
–Two Wire Linear Heat Detection Cable. (LHDC)

SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

• Two Wire heat detection cable.
• Fire alarm panel with provision of Graphics, SCADA& event logging.
• Foam based fire suppression system. The system is designed as per OISD 116/117 requirements meeting their latest specification (Circular issued in June 2015) & NFPA guidelines for foam application.

TWO WIRE LINEAR HEAT DETECTION SYSTEM.

2Wire Rimseal Catalogue 7Digital Linear Heat Detection Cable is designed to provide early detection of fire conditions and overheating in circumstances where other forms of detection would not be viable, either due to an inability to sustain the environment requirements or through prohibitive costs.
Extensive single zonal lengths of the Digital LHDC may be installed with the ability to trigger alarms for hot spots occurring on very small sections of the overall cable, with the ability to identify the distance in meters
The LHDC may be employed in a wide variety of applications but is particularly suited where there is harsh environmental conditions like Floating roof tanks, a physical or hazardous maintenance access constraint to protect the area, and/or a requirement to cost effectively install detection in close proximity to the risk(s)

CABLE CONSTRUCTION

2Wire Rimseal Catalogue 8Digital LHDC comprises of a twisted pair twin core cable. Each core is of tinned copper coated spring steel and has a special heat reactive polymer insulation. The cable has an overall protective jacket / sheath.

ALARM SYSTEM

  • The LHDC unit provides the alarm output in the form of:
  • Volt free relay contacts direct to a fire alarm control panel.
  • The control panel can be connected to local SCADA system for tank graphics, listing fire & fault conditions.
  • The system has a facility of unlimited event logging.

FOAM BASED SUPRESSION SYSTEM

2Wire Rimseal Catalogue 10The fire suppression system consists of appropriate number of stainless steel foam vessels(modules) with premix foam solution of required capacity ,duly pressurized with nitrogen and a piping network along with specially designed UL Listed stainless steel nozzles of aspirating type ,fitted at intervals of 4.5 mtr max .

PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION

  • In the event of fire, the inner cores insulating polymers of specially formulated are such that the polymers will plasticizes at a specific temperature, causing the inner cores to make contact and send a signal to the control panel.
  • Simultaneously, the signal is used to automatically actuate the solenoid valve fitted on the foam module which is in turn mounted on the floating roof tank.
  • With the Operation of the foam valve, foam is discharged in to the rim seal area through aspirating nozzles fitted on the pipe network, which extinguishes the fire at the incipient stage .

Detection in less than 10 seconds & instant extinguishing of fire at the incipient stage which minimizes damage and injuries.

Test Key is available whereby it sorts the LHS cable and hence can be tested on tank itself as many times as possible.

Simple and Reliable. Manufactured is suitable for use in any part of the world in its original form without the need for change in any kind of settings. Customer does not have to do any kind of settings at site. It is preset thing.

Available in variants for different temperature 70/90/180 Deg C

Commonly available Flame Proof Junction Box are suitable for this application.

UL / FM approvals available

Only small portion needs to be replaced in case of fire with JB, thus keeping the maintenance cost minimum with minimum downtime.

Due to common nonproprietary technology, it is Cost effective & economical due to wide competition.

Very simple in construction and easy to maintain. Even the owner’s Engineer Service can maintain it.

No Hidden cost in terms of software. As this technology is based on software, Cost to Client it tends to have upgradation every few years.
